So there was this time I was wondering about a characteristic feature that the people of Ghana are known about. I mean, Ethiopia is known for her coffee. Kenya is known for her tea and so on and so forth. But when it was the turn of Ghana to unravel its attribute to me, I was taken aback. And what was it? CHOCOLATE. Can you imagine? I wasn’t just excited because I love chocolates. But I was more delighted to know that Ghana produces something so fun to eat. I mean kids love chocolates. They buy cookies, ice creams or even cakes that are made up of chocolate. And this addiction is not restricted to just children. Adults are also guilty of sharing this same tasty passion. So how do the Ghanaians come into picture?

Although Africa is one of the continents that consumes less of chocolate, this is about to change due to the rise of the middle class. Accra is flooded with luxurious shopping malls and one of the commodities that are getting popular and affordable by the day is chocolate! Cocoa is a significant product stemmed from the territory of Ghana. The people there are proud of it  not just because it generates some modest external income. They are proud of it because it has been embraced by the Ghanaians over the years. That’s why top class producing companies such as Golden  tree  and ’57 Chocolate are consistent suppliers of this tasty haven. Speaking of which…

One of the pioneering cocoa manufacturing companies is Golden Tree. Golden Tree, the backbone of the chocolate economy, has long served the masses with chocolates and our diligent African mamas proudly hawk them to the service of the people. Unlike Golden Tree that is hawked at the busy streets of Accra, ’57 Chocolate aims at cultivating the concept of Ghanaian luxury. They produce a revolutionary artisanal chocolate made from bean to bar by a dynamic duo of Pan African sisters, Kimberly and Priscilla Addison. ’57 is inspired from the year of Ghana’s independence 1957 and it aims at making chocolate from Ghana’s own cocoa beans.

Of course, those two aforementioned organizations are not the only ones that produce this commodity. They are tons of them out there. But those two have done a great job introducing this deliciously-flavored food item to the culture of Ghana, Africa and beyond! To Ghana, we say

                                          THANK YOU!

Hello guys. This week I am going to talk about the reasons why Virgin Hair trends so much these days. Ha! I mean, I see this everywhere. My friends have it. Celebrities rock it. Hairstylists patronize it. Almost everyone embrace it. I mean what the hell? I love the slippery effect of relaxers. But c’mon. This is not a topic to be left untouched.

So last 2 weeks I was deliberating on Why Black Women Wear Wigs. And we kinda exhausted the reasons. Actually, wearing wigs is somewhat related to growing a virgin hair. Keep that thought for later.

Now before we begin to analyze the secrets behind this full-fledged hairstyle, we have to get something clear.

People use the phrases “natural hair” and “virgin hair” interchangeably as if it’s the same. To some extent they are. If you apply anything on your hair or not, as long as there is something coming out of your skull, that is called natural hair.  No two ways about it. However! What differentiates natural hair from virgin hair, is that in the case of virgin hair, you don’t apply any relaxer or any chemical that isn’t organic.  So, virgin hair is a category under the umbrella of Natural hair. In one sentence:

ALL VIRGIN HAIR ARE NATURAL, BUT NOT ALL NATURAL HAIR ARE VIRGIN!

So let’s get to business! Why do Girls grow Virgin Hair?

For Protection

The honest truth is that relaxers or other chemicals harm the hair day by day, most especially if they are applied more than frequently. When you relax your hair at every opportunity you get, the hair becomes scanty and unhealthy. You lose its natural richness and that’s not appealing, is it? But keeping your hair virgin, ha! I don’t have to tell you na! You can see how full it looks and you start to envy!

Attraction

Who doesn’t like good thing? Hahaha! Abeg, virgin hair is beautiful. Girls look so African and when they put on their Ankara tires… D-R-E-A-M-Y! Just see yourself!

Trend

You know how Nigerians or Africans used to jump at anything new that is leading in the “market”.  We like following the stream and even if the thing isn’t fully patronized, just give it some time. It becomes part and parcel of your lifestyle. Virgin hair isn’t an exception. The girl that carries virgin hair is a friend of a friend who is another person’s friend. And with a little peer pressure, there you go. You begin to start mixing ingredients to keep it virgin.

Just to Belong

The “Naturalista” Community is growing by the day! It’s fun to know that there are tons of girls backing up your passion about virgin hair. It is also welcoming to know that if you are about to start growing your virgin hair, there are girl out there to guide you in the proper way of maintenance. Practically, knowing that you are among the ladies that grow such hair, it feeds your pride.

Self-Esteem

Do you know that psychologists suggest that when you are alone, you should walk around the house naked? They say that it’s a way of embracing or loving yourself from within. Why? Being natural and loving you naturally bring out self-appreciation. That is another good reason why girls love virgin hair. It’s so natural, chemical-free and it boosts their pride. See yourself at the mirror and say: I am beautiful with the hair that God has blessed me with. I tell you! That feeling is priceless.

So because of the reasons aforementioned, women prefer wigs while they develop a virgin hair. So when it’s full enough, they begin to walk around like divas! So if are interested in that trend, don’t hesitate to try it. It’s worthwhile and as long as you are African, it will definitely fit you. I sincerely hope that I have convinced you. Cruise Africa!

Davido’s Fia, Sola Sobowale’s Wedding Party, Toke Mankiwa’s TokeMoments, AY’S comedy series or Mo Abudu’s EbonyLifeTV. These are just a few elements that spice up the Nigerian Entertainment Industry. Everyone’s spare time would kinda be boring if they don’t use it to watch a funny Nollywood movie, listen to the latest hits of a singer, be inspired by a great talk show or laugh their heart out with an awesome comedy series. Interestingly, Nigerian Entertainment doesn’t only serve the purpose of having a great impact. It can also generate a great wealth.

You can bear me witness. Not all youngsters want to bury their head on books or have a white-collar job. The dreams of young ones today are mainly related to the “stage”, the “spotlight”, the “dancefloor” or “the cameras”! Even in school, after or before classes you would see a small group of people deliberating on the next concert they will organize on a Saturday at the university. Trust me, I was part of it!

We are going to discuss about the 5 hottest jobs in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry that young people, with vigorous blood running through their veins, are seeking after.

Music artists

Some boys and girls are not just satisfied with singing in the bathroom. They see themselves facing an audience. An audience that claps for them, dance for them, sing with them. They see themselves on a stage. That’s why they don’t just enjoy Wizkid, Olamide , Phyno or Flavour. They want to be like them. They aspire to sing better than them. They want to create their own brand and those music artists on top only make them believe in themselves. So if you have a killer voice, or are an awesome songwriter, why don’t you give music a try and listen to YOUR songs being played on the radio stations? How about that?

Actors/ Actresses

Hahahahaha! Do you know why I am laughing? I can’t seem to forget all the scenes of Sola Sobowale at the “Wedding Party”. I mean it’s was hilarious. Not just the Wedding Party! Jenifa’s diary, Husbands of Lagos, Lekki Wives. Every movie or series is liked by millions of Nigerians. They are so many talented boys and girls that you think the study of theatre arts was written for them. Genevieve Nnaji, Mofe Damijo, Ini Edo, Great Mama G , Van vicker, Mercy Johnson. Do you see all these actors and actresses as just idols or do you see yourself replacing their throne and become an irresistible actor/actress? Food for thought.

Comedians

Lol! Lmfao! Laughing emojis. This is how you reply when you see a comedy show or video on Twitter or Instagram. And you don’t stop there. You will download the video, store it on your phone and sharing with others in the physical or electronic world! You know why? Because it’s makes you laugh! It’s entertaining! AY, Bovi,or Gordons have a way of turning a usual daily routine into a hilarious video shoot. You may be among those ones would have this special charisma of making people laugh, divert people’s attention from crying to laughing. Perhaps you are even among those would are funny but also innovative enough to be build your own brand. The last one kinda reminds me of Lasisisi Elenu! HAHA! This guy uses snapchat to make himself look funnier with the jokes he cracks. He is saturating Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The Question is: Are you good enough to make money out of mind-blowing jokes? Food for thought!

Talk shows

Women, aren’t you feeling inspired when Toke Makinwa tells you that you can be a sharp babe when you invest in YOURSELF? Aren’t you motivated to take your career to the next level when classy business women or celebrities are being interviewed? Aren’t you touched to hear the success stories of womanhood? Aren’t you curious to view the lifestyle of others like BBNaija? Of course you are! That it is why you take your time to watch these substantial videos of people’s lives and blessings. You feel you can be a part of it. You feel you can actually have more than they do. You might as well as want to OWN a show that brings these stories to limelight. If you are, why don’t give it a try and own a show that bridges celebrities and successful people with fans and followers.

Lifestyle Bloggers/ Vloggers

And here we are. These are interesting individuals who either disseminate latest news on business, politics and gossips such as Linda Ikeji, Olorisupergal, Bellanaija or they are the ones that randomly select mind-blowing topics to deliberate, like Cruise Africa. There are others in the YouTube industry who video shoot themselves while talking about matters that trend, like TokeMoments. If you are a good content writer with an interest on a specific field , why don’t you give it a thought and start blogging or vlogging?.

The buttom line is : DO YOUR THING!  Nobody is going to do it for you. You are the one to bring your dreams to reality! You are the one that will confront life and stay celebrated. You are the ONE! Cruise Africa!
