Types of tourism (Geography).

There are divergent types of tourism.  They are copious and each of them has intriguing characteristics. However, it is prudent that they are classified on two categories
1.       On the basis of geography(domestic and international tourism)
2.       On the basis of purpose (business tourism, sport tourism, etc.)

On the basis of geography

Domestic Tourism
Domestic Tourism is the activity of residents of one country travelling within that same country. It could encompass local excursion, regional trips or even trips on a national level. The cost incurred in transportation, stay and leisure or business is all part of it.
DT happens to be the first type of tourism that still accounts for a considerable contribution in a country’s GDP. DT entails the following features:
                                 i.            The cost of trips is lower than the expenses made when leaving the borders of the country.
ii.            Destinations are nearer to the visitor’s habitual environment. Therefore the trips made to the destinations are frequent.
iii.            Domestic tourists are most probably aware of the language, the customs, the laws, the culture etc.
iv.            Tourists are more demanding in the quality of products or services they receive. They are witty of consumer protection rights.

Domestic Tourism in Nigeria
DT seems to be a major contributor and employer of labor, which consequentially means that it generates revenue for the Nigerian government. The huge population can be served by the domestic tourism in terms of job creation, poverty alleviation and revenue generation. The exchange of information, education and culture unifies the Nigerian youth and women to be  immensely empowered. Specifically, the top events that spice up the domestic tourism in Nigeria can start from the annual  Calabar Festival in Cross-River State to the Osun Osogbo in Osun State. We can proudly say that 10% of the Nigerian economy is ruled by the domestic Tourism.

International Tourism
International tourism involves crossing the boundaries of a country to another one. It is very likely to entail different currencies, different languages and different types of people. Unlike domestic tourism, Int’l tourism is concerned with passport, visa or conversion of one currency into another. Based on who is the visitor, international tourism can be segregated into inbound and outbound tourism.
Inbound tourism is when people from another country visit your country. For example, Ethiopians enjoy inbound tourism when Chinese or Italian visitors tour in Ethiopia.
Outbound tourism is when people in your country visit another country, i.e. Ethiopians visiting China or Italy.

International tourism in South Africa
South Africa’s spectacular scenery, balmy climate, world class infrastructure and friendly people have made the country very inviting. According to the Statistics SA show, the number of tourists visiting in 2016 was inflated by 13% more than 2015. UK, USA and German visitors were at the top of the tree whereas Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Lesotho were African travelers who came up to be among the international tourists.

This time the post was lengthy. But it was also educative and interesting to read.  I hope you feel informed and prepared for the tourism on the basis of purpose.
